MALAYS, The Modern ORANG ASLI of Tanah Melayu

July 25, 2010

In their effort to question the SPECIAL POSITION OF MALAYS/BUMIPUTRAS as allowed for in our country’s Constitution, certain UNGRATEFUL descendents of former IMMIGRANTS who were granted Malaysian citizenship in early 1950s are trying hard to ‘re-write history’, including trying to paint a picture that the forefathers of Malays were from Indonesia, and that the real ‘bumiputra’ of Malaysia are the ORANG ASLI.

Those with such belief do not realize that the modern nation of Indonesia was part of the MALAY ARCHIPELAGO.  When the Malay(Hindu) Kingdom of Langkasuka reigned supreme between 2nd-5th AD, the whole of Malay Archipelago was then subservient to the rulers of Langkasuka. When the Malay(Hindu) Kingdom of Srivijaya centred in Palembang, Sumatra took over the supremacy  in 5th-12th centuries, the whole of Tanah Melayu became part of theKingdom. And when the Malay Sultanate of Malacca took over the reign in 13th-15th centuries, most parts of Sumatra were under Malacca.

Lets take the case of the Sumatra Island, which is seperated from West Malaysia, formerly known as Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, by the narrow Straits of Malacca. During the Langkasuka era, Sumatra was part of the Malay Kingdom, like the rest of the Malay Archipelago. And when Sumatra became the home of the Sriwijaya Kingdom, Tanah Melayu became subservient to the Palembang-centred Malay Kingdom. In the same way, Tanah Melayu were related to other Indonesian islands like Kalimantan(which used to be under the Malay Sultanate of brunei), and Sulawesi, and Philipine islands of Mindanao and Sulu, and the Malay-majority enclaves of southern Thailand.

Tanah Melayu and other parts of the MALAY ARCHIPELAGO are very much like GREATER CHINA which brings together Mainland China, Manchuria, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. We seldom, if not never, heard people using terms like Chinese migrated to Taiwan, or Honkies migrated to China, or Manchurians migrated to China, as all of them are Chinese, while Mainland China, Manchuria, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau are PART AND PARCEL of what the Europeans term as ‘GREATER CHINA’.

Its a fact that there are Malays whose forefathers were from neighbouring islands within the Malay Archipelago, like Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi in Indonesia, islands of Mindanau and Sulu in the Philipines, and frfom the malay-majority enclaves of southern Thailand. However, the majoriry of Malays are INDIGENOUS to this Tanah Melayu. The  forefathers of INDIGENOUS Malays in Tanah Melayu were part of the INDIGENOUS ethnicities which are now called the  ‘Orang Asli’ . The term ‘Orang Asli’ is quite recent origin. Previously, the ‘Orang Asli’ were known identified under sub-ethnic groups of as Negritos, Senoi and ‘proto-Malays’. Unlike the the Negritos and the Senois who led ‘normadic’ life in the jungles of Tanah melayu, the ‘proto-Malays’ Orang Asli settled closer to river-mouths and the sea. They were the fore-fathers of Malays who settled down in settlements like Kuala Selangor, Kelang, Kuala Muda, Kota Bharu, Pekan and other such settlements were more exposed to FOREIGN TRADERS .

Their exposures to foreigners, including inter-racial marriages to foreigners like the Arabs and Indians, and to limited extent the Chinese, have  brought  modernity and advancements to the  ‘proto-Malays’ Orang Asli. They have been transformed into a ‘modern’ Malay race, who were sophbisticated enough to become RULERS of different corners of the Malay Archipelago. Their Negritos and Senois counterparts remained in the jungles and never staked claims to be rulers of the region, hence the MALAY SUPREMACY in the region for thousands of years.

The forefathers of the MALAYS were part of the ‘Orang Asli’ fraternity, and hence their SPECIAL POSITION in our Constitution, alongside the other BUMIPUTRAS.

Inevitable Reproachment of UMNO and PAS(In Bahasa Melayu)

July 14, 2010

Beberapa salah faham tentang maksud sebenar sesuatu aspek ajaran Islam melambatkan sedikit proses penyatuan semula UMNO-PAS. Namun begitu, apabila KEBENARAN mengatasi KEBATILAN, dua saudara, UMNO dan PAS akan berjalanan seiringan kembali. Itulah hasrat umat Melayu, insyaaAllah.

PERKASA and the Defense of Malay Rights

July 13, 2010

In 1946, 43 Malay NGOs gathered at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman Kampung Baru to form a UNITED FRONT to oppose the Malayan Union, which would have stripped the Malay Sultans of their TRADITIONAL POWERS and would have put the IMMIGRANTS on the same footing of the INDIGENOUS MALAYS. The getting together of the Malay NGOs gave birth to what’s now called the United Malays National Organisation(UMNO).

The IMMIGRANT Chinese and Indians DID NOT take part in the fight against the Malayan Union partly because they were SUPPORTIVE of the Malayan Union, and partly because they were then NOT YET citizens of Tanah Melayu.

The Malays fight against Malayan Union was given MORAL BOOST by retired British administrators. To them, when they first landed in Tanah Melayu, they dealt only with the Malays and their Sultans. To them, when the British decided to leave, they have to hand over the country to the Malays and their Sultans.

In the face of strong opposition from the Malays, united under UMNO, the British decided to RESCIND the Malayan Union, and replaced it with the Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, as a transition Government PRIOR to full independence.

Along the road to full independence, the British persuaded UMNO and the Malay Sultans to accept the Chinese and Indian IMMIGRANTS as citizens of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, to facilitate the independence. UMNO and the Malay Sultan AGREED to the British proposals, with THE CONDITION that the Chinese and Indians recognise the SPECIAL POSITION of Malays and other related ‘Malay-centred’ provisions, which were known as the SOCIAL CONTRACT.

Its NOT fair to label organisations like Perkasa, whose aim is to UPHOLD what had been agreed by the founders of our modern Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, and later, Malaysia, as racists or Malay extremists.

Those who are seeking to DISMANTLE the foundations of our modern nation are the real CULPRIT in jeapordising the PEACE, STABILITY and PROSPERITY which have been enjoyed by all Malaysians for over 50 years.

PAS – Parti Ajaran Sesat(PAS)

July 9, 2010

PAS leaders were IGNITED when an UMNO leader, as reported, called PAS ‘Parti Ajaran Sesat’.

Actually, this not the first time UMNO leaders and followers RIDICULED that PAS stands for ‘Parti Ajaran Sesat’, literally means ‘Deviant Teachings Party’. However, the term ‘sesat’ in Bahasa Melayu may also be interpreted as ‘lost’, like when some one ‘lost his way’.

I believe, UMNO members have sufficient JUSTIFICATION to call PAS ‘Parti Ajaran Sesat’, in other words, a party who ‘have lost their way’. PAS have been seen by many to have lost their way, after over 50 years on the political stage in this country.

In a way, PAS was ‘created’ from the ‘rib of UMNO’. A few years after the establishment of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, to replace the EJECTED Malayan Union, UMNO under Onn Jaafar, its first President, decided to gather MALAY MUSLIM SCHOLARS to join UMNO. They were grouped under a kind of sub-committee called PERSATUAN ISLAM SE-MALAYA(PAS). The sub-commitee was headed by a RELIGIOUS SCHOLAR by the name of Hj. Mohd Fuad, a staunch supporter of Onn Jaafar.

It was around this time that Onn Jaafar, under heavy persuasion from the British, became inclined to the idea of opening up UMNO membership to non-Malays. The idea was rejected STOCK AND BARREL by the UMNO rank-and-file, which ended up into Onn Jaafar not defending his post as UMNO President when his two-year terms expired. Instead, he set up a new party by the name of Independence Malaya Party(IMP). This was the time when Hj. Mohd Fuad, an Onn Jaafar man, decided to bring the PAS out of UMNO, and registered a new party, Parti Islam Se-Malaya, or ‘PAS’. This new entity became IMP-friendly due to the ‘special relation’ between Hj. Mohd. Fuad and Onn Jaafar.

Prior to 1982, PAS was an ULTRA MALAY party. PAS was STAUNCHLY against UMNO working together with non-Malay parties like MCA and MIC, so much so, their ulamas(including Nik Aziz) used to issue ‘fatwa’ that whoever take non-Muslims/non-Malays as partners would become KAFIR, or being INFIDELS or NON-BELIEVERS.

With ‘Young Turks’ like Hj. Hadi and Fadhil Noor taking over the leadership of PAS by early 1980s, PAS ‘vision and mission’ changed almost totally. From then on, they started to call for the ESTABLISHMENT OF ISLAMIC STATE in Malaysia, to be modelled after the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Saudi Arabia.

However, weeks before the voters went to the poll in 2008 GE, PAS decided to DROP their ISLAMIC AGENDA, in favour of being accepted to be partners of DAP and PKR in the Barisan Alternatif(BA), which was later changed to Pakatan Rakyat(Pakatan).

From the very beginning, PAS have taken the Malay/Islam road, but had miserably LOST their way. Finally PAS decided to hitch a ride from DAP and PKR. At the end, PAS is fighting NEITHER for Malays, NOR for Islam.

PAS simply has LOST their way. PAS has become ‘PARTI AJARAN SESAT’.

The Inevitable Exodus Back To UMNO/BN

July 6, 2010

We are now almost mid-way between the 2008 12th GE and the constitutional date-line to hold the 13th GE. Whilst UMNO is seen as SOLID and UNITED, its senior partners in the BN ruling coalition are still consolidating, after periods of turbulance. On the other side of the political divide, DAP and PAS are held together, loosely though, by the  VOLATILE PKR. Growing acceptance and popularity of Najib has already sparked off speculations that the BN may consider snap-GE.

Prior to 2008 GE, 90% of Indians were with BN. Weeks before the polling day, their loyalty to the BN was TEMPORARILY compromised by the FABRICATED rumours of ETHNIC CLEANSING against their community, and alleged SERIAL DEMOLITIONS of the Hindu temples. Only after turning their back on the BN  DID they realize that BOTH were not true, and that they were duped and cheated. Since then, the Indians have drifted back to the BN, and by the latest Merdeka Centre polls, over 70% of Indians are back with the BN.

The drift back to UMNO/BN among the Malays in PKR is a bit slower, but has gained MOMENTUM after the fall of Pakatan’s ‘under the tree’  State Government. With Anwar’s own former KEY PERSONS like Ezam, Zahrain and Zulkifli Nordin are leading the BN-bound EXODUS, it would not be long before PKR will be left with Anwar, Azizah and Azmin(the notorious 3As) and a section of the Chinese, mainly English-educated,  and a pool of Indian lawyers. Its too early to predict whether Khalid Ibrahim may consider calling it a day too with PKR.

The most damaging DISASTER awaiting Pakatan is the eventual parting with PAS. The situation in PAS can be described as RETAK MENANTI BELAH. In the past, PAS managed to ‘pinch’  UMNO Malay supporters with their JIHAD, SYAHID and ENJOIN GOOD AND FORBIDDING EVIL slogans. Since they have abandoned those symbols of Islamic struggle, PAS is finding  it tough to attract new Malay supporters. Even their ‘battle-hardened’  rank-and-file are beginning to question every move made by their leaders They NO LONGER hold to the previously held ‘kami dengar dan kami taat’, meaning ‘we hear and we obey’ discipline.

The issue of DAP  FOR SECULARISM and PAS FOR ISLAMIC STATE will inevitabily split up DAP and PAS in the run up to the 13th GE. PAS leaders , in order to remain relevant to their grass-root supporters and their ISLAMIC STATE ambitions, will be forced to revert back to their original ISLAMIC AGENDA, and  wave BYE BYE to DAP.

The inevitable exodus back to UMNO/BN has begun, and is gaining momentum.

Malaysia IS an Islamic State

July 4, 2010

Earlier in the week, PAS was forced to a corner again by a statement by Karpal Singh, the Chairman of DAP, that Malaysia was ‘conceived’ as a SECULAR STATE. Such RE-STATEMENT was made despite PAS’s claims that their Pakatan coalition partners, DAP and PKR, understand and aware of PAS’s ISLAMIC STATE aspirations. Nik Aziz tried to close the lid over the potentially explosive issue by labelling Karpal Singh’s statement as ‘personal opinion’. However, PAS Youth leader, Nasruddin Hassan, was more honest, by hinting that PAS may review their partnership with DAP if such ‘backstabbing’ continues.

The skirmishes between Karpal Singh and PAS leaders attracted the attention of Professor Aziz Bari of UIAM, reputed to be an expert in CONSTITUTIONAL  laws, argued AGAINST Karpal’s contentions that Malaysia is a secular state. He also argued that, despite Tunku Abdul Rahman reportedly implying that Malaysia was a secular state, his actions like initiating the QURAN READING competition and setting up Islam Religious Departments point to his true understanding of the Constitution. Its interesting to add that Tunku was also responsible to establish other Islamic LANDMARKS in Malaysia including PERKIM, Tabung Haji, and even the Organisation of Islamic Conference(OIC).

Considering that the Article 3(1) of the Federal Constitution has clearly spell out that ISLAM IS THE RELIGION OF THE FEDERATION, besides other related Articles which empower the use of the Federal Funds to to administer and propagate the religion of Islam, empowering the Malay Sultans to be HEAD OF RELIGION OF ISLAM in their respective states, all point to the fact that Malaysia is NOT a secular state as repetedly argued by Karpal Singh.

Despite PAS’s views that Malaysia is NOT ISLAMIC ENOUGH to be called Islamic State, constitutionally, Malaysia is beyond doubt an ISLAMIC STATE.
