Tips To Keeping MCA Relevant

Latest ‘brotherly skirmishes’  between UMNO and MCA has attracted much attention in the last few days. It all started during the recent Chinese Business Congress, when MCA proposed for the gradual removal of the 30% Bumiputra equity requirement in certain sectors of the economy.

In justifying ‘poking his fingures’ on the hyper-sentive issue, MCA President Chua Soi Lek among other things stated:
…….” MCA is sensitive of its role within the Barisan Nasional but we have a role to play as Chinese-based party so that we can continue to be relevant. …..”

By reading ‘in-between the lines’, obviously, the main issue here is MCA would like to remain RELEVANT. And it goes without saying that CSL would like to see himself, and other MCA leaders, to remain RELEVANT to the Chinese community.

If that’s the main concern of CSL, then why take the short-cut way… by trying to be like DAP…. by trying to deny the Malays certain policies related to the ‘code 153’?

In a way, I think CSL is SHORT-SIGHTED. Had he looked a bit deeper into the PAST, before 2008, he should ask himself, WHY MCA WAS RELEVANT THEN?

The simple answer is, MCA has failed to educate the Chinese community the HISTORY OF THE REGION, the FOUNDATIONS OF THE COUNTRY, and matters such as the SOCIAL CONTRACT AMONG RACES.

MCA’s negligence has allowed the DAP to sow SEEDS OF HATRED towards the Malays, by instilling ideas that the Chinese are discriminated against….. despite the Chinese DOMINANCE in the private sector.

To emulate the ‘dances’ of DAP will only bring MCA closer to IRRELEVANCY.

To remain relevant, MCA has to go back to the BASICS. MCA should not be embarrassed to reflect on the history of CHINESE IMMIGRATION into the then Tanah Melayu in the 20th century, and how they were eventually granted citizenship, by having some understandings with the Malays.

And then, how they work alongside the Malays to build the country in a WIN-WIN formula. And the path taken by the MCA founders have enabled the Chinese to develop and prosper by LEAPS AND BOUNDS.

Lets not be bogged down by the code-153. Just look at the bottom line and ask this questions: Is there anywhere else in the world where the chinese are better off than their counterparts in Malaysia?????

Malaysia may not be THE BEST, but not many will dispute that Malaysia is AMONG THE BEST place under the sun for the Chinese, especially those who are CITIZENS OF MALAYSIA.

Malays are NOT against the Chinese. They are only against WHOEVER who are inclined to encroach into the SANCTITY of the code-153.

..and yet they are those Malays who still do some business with DAP.I am for sure would not buy any more goods from a stall whose owner is a DAP member.Call me a racist , yes ! definetly, if you want to play with ” api” ; no more tolerance to my next neighboure who are DAP members. No more “muka manis” when I confront with these guys.

Mind you they are a lots of Malays like me and we manage to force his business down ( kedai runcit ) by boycotting to buy from his store.( The only chinese store in my kampung )Oh yes, he is a nice person in nature but who cares anymore

    Hi jenin ,

i tend to agree with you …boycotting is one thing .it just a temporary measure to drive home a point ..but the best lasting thing for the malays to do is improve themselves …by engaging in the businesses which are essential ….yes..the malay rights are all there as enshrined in the constitution but we have to address and translate these rights into a big turnaround . but surely we need to learn and work together with our chinese brothers in business …and not with the ultra kiasu politicians whose business is to create tension in order to be popular among their own race…

i recommend u to read a blog site called http://majufikir2020.blogspot.net or just go to google and type in majufikir2020) …there are a few engaging suggestions by the blogger on how to improve the malays’ standing in business…

    hi tmk,

politicians will always be like that..once they feel that their popularity is on the decline ..in order to boost it up ..they have to stir up something controversial that attract attention form the masses big time….so the best bait as usual are :-

    a) race issues – usually exploited by dap ..in order to gain the chinese support…i dont blame mca per se though as they have got a beating from the ultra kiasus in dap who are more vocal and get the support from the vernacular papers readily …so CSL is playing ‘smart’ …by him jumping on the bandwagon in questioning the malay rights ..he is actually drawing support of the chinese fence-sitters to mca whilst at the same time his tainted image due to his sexual transgression will be forgotten…..the chiense are by and large moderates as thye want to go about their daily business ..and actually they are happy living in m’sia …however the incessant ceramah and blogs and media by dap especially to tell them actually they are not happy has to a certain extent driven some to be dissatisfied with the umno govt…whereas there is no issue at all !!….the analogy is like …when u feel healthy and happy with yourself ..good life, good health , good business, lots of savings , and property and investment , can pray in peace …then someone came knocking on your door and tell u repeatedly that actually u are not happy .life is bad here , someone is out to grab your wealth and bla bla blaa…..and so u will break and believe what they say …

the thing is we should have told this person with ‘who told you i’m not happy ? can you buzz off and mind your own business….similarly mca too should be brave enough to tell these chauvinist dap that we chinese are ok and happy in m’sia ….if you think that we are not happy …then we shall give you our own opinion.

    b) religious issues – the same ‘hudud’ issue is now being raised by pas ..who else ? as they sense now that ever since getting themselves trapped with dap …the islamic state ( and hudud) ambition has been put aside …..and costing pas dearly as nobody beleive that hudud can be implemented constitutionally …so the poor pas and pkr supporters need to be again energized and to be ready …..
