SOCIAL CONTRACT Were Written Documents

March 15, 2011

Certain bloggers in MT People’s Portal, challenged me, and INSPIRED me,  to prove that the widely-discussed SOCIAL CONTRACT among major races were WRITTEN DOCUMENTS at all. How do I begin…

SOCIAL CONTRACT is the term used to describe a few WRITTEN DOCUMENTS generated during the independence-negotiation years. The negotiations include the FORMULATION of the new nation’s Federal Constitution. The documents include:
1. Joint memorandum of the ruling Alliance Party(consisting of UMNO, MCA and MIC) to independent Commission entrusted with the formulation of the Constitution of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, the Reids Commission.
2. Proposals by Reids Commission which became DRAFT to the Constitution.
3. The first and original Constitution of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, in English, Malaya.

Its interesting to note that, the joint memorandum by the ruling Alliance Party include the following:
“Sekalipun kami mengakui bahawasanya di dalam Malaya yang merdeka itu maka kesemua warganegara patutlah diberi hak-hak, kemudahan-kemudahan dan peluang-peluang yang sama…..tetapi kami mengakui bahawasanya ORANG-ORANG MELAYU ITU IALAH ANAK WATAN YANG ASLI DAN BAHAWA MEREKA ITU MEMPUNYAI KEDUDUKAN YANG KHAS TERBIT DARI KEADAAN YANG TERSEBUT, DAN JUGA DENGAN KUAT-KUASA TREATY YANG TELAH DIBUAT ANTARA KERAJAAN BRITISH DENGAN NEGERI-NEGERI MELAYU YANG BERDAULAT. OLEH YANG DEMIKIAN PERLEMBAGAAN ITU PATUTLAH MENGADAKAN SYARAT BAHAWA YANG DI-PERTUAN AGUNG ITU PATUTLAH MEMPUNYAI TANGGUNGAN YANG KHAS BAGI MENGAWALKAN KEDUDUKAN ISTIMEWA ORANG-ORANG MELAYU ITU……MENYIMPANKAN DENGAN BERPATUTAN BANYAKNYA UNTUK ORANG-ORANG MELAYU AKAN TANAH-TANAH, JAWATAN-JAWATAN DALAM PERKHIDMATAN AWAM, PERMIT-PERMIT….BIASISWA-BIASISWA KERAJAAN…..” (Dipetik dari: KONTRAK SOSIAL. Penulis: Dato’ Abdul Manaf Haji Ahmad. Penerbit: UTUSAN PUBLICATIONS 2009).

Those documents are WRITTEN DOCUMENTS, well kept in our National Archives, and have become part and parcel of our history.

Dealing With TREACHEROUS Acts

March 10, 2011

Ibrahim Ali has created a new STIR by proposing that the Government set up a commission to deal with those who are DISLOYAL to the country and even proposed REVOKING CITIZENSHIP as one of the measures which can be considered.

I may not agree to all proposals put up by Ibrahim Ali. However, I agree with him that its HIGH TIME that the Government take serious actions against ACTS OF DISLOYALTY to the country. During the old feudal past, ACTS OF DISLOYALTY was termed as TREACHERY, in Malay ‘DURHAKA’, which were normally dealt with by DEATH SENTENCE.

The way I see it, it is NOT treacherous to form an alternative party to the BN, and its NOT treacherous to vote the opposition. And its NOT treacherous to put up different views from that of the Government. And, its NOT treacherous even to change a Government, through FAIR and DEMOCRATIC elections.

However, its TREACHEROUS to undermine the Government by FABRICATING STORIES against the Government, the BN or even UMNO. Lets take the case of Hindraf FABRICATING the ETHNIC CLEANSING stories, which stirred the Indians just weeks before the 2008 GE. Without such FABRICATION, over 90% of Indians would not have been DUPED into voting the opposition.

And, to me, one of the most TREACHEROUS ACTS is to undermine the very FOUNDATIONS of our country, like the SOCIAL CONTRACT among major races which were engraved in the country’s Constitution. It was a FACT OF HISTORY that the Malays agreed to the granting of citizenship to FORMER IMMIGRANTS, in exchange for them accepting SPECIAL POSITION OF MALAYS, the original inhabitants and rulers of the Tanah Melayu.

Any effort or PLOT to review the FOUNDATIONS would weaken the whole structure of our ‘building’, and may cause the whole building to collapse on our head. And any political CONSPIRACY to alter the FOUNDATIONS will only send the whole country on the part of PERIL.
TREACHEROUS ACTS should be dealt with severely, including REVOKING CITIZENSHIPS, to safeguard the PEACE, STABILITY and PROSPERITY of this beloved country of ours.

Democracy Ala-China

March 3, 2011

In China, only ONE political party is allowed, the COMMUNIST PARTY OF CHINA(CPC).

Yet, out of over 1.2 billion population of China, only about 6% are members of the CPC, or only about 10% of the adult population.

This is ‘democracy’ ala-China.

How Democratic is the United Nations?

March 3, 2011

In recent past, the UN has been directly involved in REGIME CHANGE in several countries including Iraq and Afghanistan, by allowing the USA and NATO forces to use their military mights to determine the final outcome of internal conflicts in those nations.

The past few weeks have witnessed PRO-DEMOCRACY UPRISINGS spreading CONTAGEOUSLY in the Arab countries. STREET DEMONSTRATIONS have sent the President of Tunisia into exile, and forced the President of Egypt to resign. And STREET DEMONSTRATIONS are shaking other governments in the region.

Again, the UN spared no time in TAKING SIDE in the countries affected, and through its ELITIST Security Council, has even decreed NO-FLYING ZONE in Libya, and SANCTIONS against the country’s leader, Muammar Khaddafi. The UN is obviously supportive of PRO-DEMOCRACY UPRISINGS…and possible REGIME CHANGE…and would even consider using US and NATO forces in possible military interventions.

The MORAL QUESTION is, how democratic is the UN itself, when practically, only 5 permanent members of the UN, are dictating terms on behalf of over 180 member-countries of the world body. The five permanent members are the USA, Russia, Britain, France and People’s Republic of China.
