Understanding CAUSES of Racial Tension in Malaysia

October 17, 2015

I’m not a medical doctor. But I’ve seen enough doctors to understand the difference between SYMPTOMS, SICKNESS, CAUSES and PRESCRIPTIONS.

RACIAL TENSION is the sickness. SYMPTOMS of the RACIAL TENSION sickness include:

  1. Bersih 4.0 rally organised on the eve of this year’s Merdeka Day celebrations, attended by about 100,000 participants, 80% of whom were Malaysian Chinese. The rally unveiled intense hatred among Chinese youths against Malay political leaders, which was symbolised by their acts of stamping their feet on photos of DS Najib Tun Razak, the country’s Prime Minister and UMNO President, and DS Hadi Awang, the President of PAS.
  2. Red Shirts rally organised on 16th September, the Malaysia Day, attended by about 200,000 participants, almost 100% of whom were Malays. Certain section of the Red Shirts rally attempted to ‘storm’ into Petaling Street, also known as ‘Chinatown of Kuala Lumpur’.
  3. Following the two rallies, there were FLURRY OF RACIALLY-CHARGED statements by leaders and bloggers of both sides…each describing the other as RACISTS.

These are all SYMPTOMS, not the CAUSES of the racial tension.

Back to the analogy of a doctor, the doctor has to know the CAUSES of certain disease or sickness, to enable him/her to prescribe the right medicine…to cure the sickness.

Our politicians on both sides of political divide keeps on talking about SYMPTOMS…about stamping on photos of Malay politicians…about Red Shirts attempt to storm Petaling Street….about placards calling abolishing of SJKC….about a deputy minister wanting to ‘lempang’ the Chinese…and such likes.

But what actually triggered all such acts?

Our forefathers, representing all major races, back in early 1950s, had reached certain understandings and agreements, in laying the FOUNDATIONS of the would be independent Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, including formulating the country’s FEDERAL CONSTITUTION. The formulated FEDERAL CONSTITUTION became the embodiment of those understandings and agreements. One of the key agreements  was called the SOCIAL CONTRACT, or can be more accurately described as CITIZENSHIP AGREEMENT.

By the CITIZENSHIP AGREEMENT, over 1.2 million immigrant Chinese nationals, and over 0.3 million immigrant Indian nationals, were conferred citizenship of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, in return for them recognizing the SPECIAL POSITION of the Malays as the original inhabitants and political rulers of Tanah Melayu states, which were part of the bigger Malay Archipilago. This explains certain Malay-centredness of the formulated Federal Constitution.

However, as decades passed by, the younger generation are beginning to be detached from the history of foundation of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, and later Malaysia. Worse still, Chinese-centred political parties like DAP, since its formation, have been drumming the MALAYSIAN MALAYSIA concept…which directly or indirectly call for the abolition of the Malays/Non-Malays and Bumiputra/Non-bumiputra divide.

Such CALLS and DEMANDS by DAP is indeed a major CAUSE of racial tension in this country.

Had DAP and their Chinese supporters accepted the terms of SOCIAL CONTRACT or the CITIZENSHIP AGREEMENT, the Malays would not have any complain at all. Despite the Chinese dominating the economic sector of the country, the Malays have nothing against it. The Malays can accept that whoever works harder deserve to be better rewarded.

I really hope my writing will be analysed and studied by leaders and followers of DAP, Gerakan, MCA and other Chinese-based parties, and NGOs too.

Lets not discuss the SYMPTOMS, but lets honestly find out the actual CAUSES of ‘diseases’ which are impacting us. Then only, we will find the RIGHT PRESCRIPTION.

KETUANAN MELAYU Here To Stay, Like It or Not

September 25, 2015

Before we discus ‘Ketuanan Melayu’, lets see how Malays understand the term ‘Ketuanan Melayu’…rather than how DAP understands it.

To the Malays, ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ is not about the Malays being a master race and the others as slave races.

To the Malays, ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ also does not imply Malay dominance as claimed by certain non-Malays.

To the Malays, ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ means that the Malays are accorded certain ‘Special position…’ in the Federal Constitution for being the ‘original owner and ruler’ of Tanah Melayu and Persekutuan Tanah Melayu.

Malays never claim that they are master race over other races. The Malays never claim that they should ‘dominate’ all spheres of life in the country….after all the Chinese are the dominant race, in general, in the field of economy.

However, Malays only demand RECOGNITION by other races that their forefathers were the ‘original owners and rulers’ of this part of the world known as the Malay Archipelago, in particular the peninsula part of Malaysia, known as Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, or Malaya.

Actually such RECOGNITION was already ‘inscribed’ in the Federal Constitution by inclusion of various articles which are MALAY-CENTRED, like the ‘special position…’ accorded to the Malays and Bumiputra of Sabah and Sarawak. Besides that, the adoption of Islam(the religion of the Malays in Malaysia) as the RELIGION OF THE FEDERATION, the adoption of Bahasa Melayu(the language of the Malays) as the official language of the country, the role of one of the Malays Raja Melayu as one of the Agung(king) of the country, the provision of ‘tanah rizab Melayu’ and such like.

Whether DAP Chinese like it or not, such understanding of ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ is wide spread within the Malay community, and they will never surrender such status accorded to them in the formulation of the Federal Constitution.

Let me remind. Ketuanan Melayu is NEITHER about the Malays being a master race NOR the Malays as dominant race. Ketuanan Melayu is a general recognition that the forefathers of the Malays were the original owners and rulers of Tanah Melayu….as being inscribed in our Federal Constitution.

Who Are the Actual RACISTS – Discourse on Chinese Vernacular Schools

September 21, 2015

There are certain TABOOS in Malaysian Politics. In Bahasa Malaysia, TABOOS is interpreted as ‘pantang larang’, laterally means ‘forbidden’.

One of the taboos is to question ‘kedudukan istimewa Melayu/Bumiputra’ or ‘special position of Malays/Bumiputras’ as provided for in Article 153 of our Federal Constitution. This article was incorporated in the Federal Constitution based on ‘Citizenship Agreement’ between the immigrant forefathers of Malaysian Chinese and Malaysian Indians of today, with the forefathers of the indigenous Malays in early 1950s…a few years before the independence of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, the peninsula part of present day Malaysia.

Another prominent TABOO is to question the existence of Chinese Vernacular Schools, better known as Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina or SJKC. SJKC are actually private schools set up by Chinese communities, with certain degree of funding by the Federal Government. In SJKC, the medium of teaching/learning is Chinese/Mandarin. Despite being privately funded, most SJKC are MORE LUXURIOUS than Government fully-funded Sekolah Kebangsaan(SK) or National Schools, which are open to all Malaysian children…but with Bahasa Melayu, the national language of the country,  as the medium of teaching/learning. For example, most SJKC class-rooms are fully air-conditioned, compared to SK which can only afford ‘natural ventilation.

Based on latest statictics, about 90% of Chinese children are sent to SJKC. Meaning only 10% of Chinese children are sent to Government-funded SK.

Since the debut of DAP in the country’s General Elections in 1969, DAP Chinese have increasingly question the the TABOO to the Malays…their ‘special position…’ in the Federal Constitution. In fact, co-incidently, the 1969 May Tragedy, erupted in Kuala Lumpur after days of ‘victory parades’ by DAP supporters, for their ‘victory’ in denying the Alliance Party a two-third majority win in Parliment for the first time.

Paradoxically, when certain Malay-based political parties and NGOs, stood up in defense of Article 153 and its instruments of implementation, like the Dasar Ekonomi Baru(DEB), which are clearly provided for in the Federal Constitution, DAP would be the first to label such party or NGO as RACISTS. Perkasa and ISMA are two of Malay-based NGOs who have been labelled as RACISTS for their brave stands to uphold the Article of the Federal Constitution.

On the other hand, SJKC are not even mentioned in the Federal Constitution. The Federal Constitution only provide for the TEACHING OF MOTHER LANGUAGES among the children of various non-Malays races and ethnic groups. Last week, when certain participants of RED SHIRTS rally displayed a few banners calling for abolishing of SJKC, all Chinese-based political parties were quick to jump on their two feet to label the rally as RACISTS.

There appears to be serious DOUBLE STANDARD being practised by the Chinese and their Chinese-based political parties and NGOs. The Malays who are calling for abolishment of SJKC are looking it from the point of view of bringing all Malaysian children in single NATIONAL SCHOOLS, rather than segregating them into three or more types of schools…with different languages of teaching/learning, believe that, such segregation has been the primary cause of RACIAL MISUNDERSTANDING among the childeren when they grow up. But, to the Chinese, the Malays or Malay-based parties who support such ideas are RACISTS.

The way I see it, our fellow Malaysian citizens, Malaysian Chinese, are the ones who are looking at things ‘CHINESE FIRST and MALAYSIA SECOND’ when they so fanatically defending the SJKC….so fanatically rejecting any idea of streamlining our Malaysian children into single Malay-medium National Schools. By thinking ‘CHINESE FIRST and MALAYSIAN SECOND’ with regards to education, Malaysian Chinese are definitely the actual RACISTS.

UMNO Got Dignity. PKR No Dignity. DAP No Dignity.

September 20, 2015

UMNO has been consistent in defending the rights of Malays from its inception in 1946. UMNO and Raja Melayu fought against the Malayan Union(without any support from the Chinese and Indians) which led to establishment of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu in 1948. Along the way MCA and MIC joined in. UMNO was at the forefront of formulation of the Constitution of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu which was Malay-centred, ie. Islam, the religion of the Malays became the ‘religion of the Federation’, Bahasa Melayu, the language of the Malays became ‘bahasa rasmi’, the Raja-Raja Melayu select the Agung among themselves to be the king of the country, giving ‘special position’ to the Malays etc etc. Until now, UMNO are upholding those provisions ‘without fear or favour’. In this sense, UMNO GOT DIGNITY.

PKR, despite being led generally by Malays are not defending the Malay rights as allowed for in the Constitution. Prior to PRU 2008, PKR even promised the Chinese voters to do away with DEB, one of the intruments of implementation of Article 153 of the Federal Constitution. No doubt, PKR got votes from the Chinese by being TRAITORS to their own Malay race….and TRAITORS to the Federal Constitution too. And latest, despite PAS refusal to work with both DAP and Amanah, PKR is still ‘nagging’ PAS to work within Pakatan2.0….mainly to ensure that the Selangor Government does not fall to the BN. For the sake of retaining some power, PKR is willing to do ‘hidung tak mancung, pipi tersorong-sorong’. In this sense, PKR has NO DIGNITY.

DAP is worst of all. They knew from day one that PAS’s aspirations included implementation of HUDUD LAWS. For the sake of Malay votes, DAP was willing to pretend that PAS had shelved those HUDUD LAWS. Even after the parties ‘divorced each other’, DAP is still willing to sleep on the same bed as PAS…in Selangor…for the most ridiculous of excuses. On top of that, DAP is not bold enough to insist PAS to make a choice….DAP/Amanah  or PAS. Apparently, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng are just like TIN KOSONG. TIN KOSONG makes loudest of noises, compares to tins full of oil or biscuits. Obviously, all the cocky and arrogant talks by the Lim the Father and Lim the Son are just to hide their hollow core. DAP indirectly still need to hang on to PAS…hence their unwillingness to give ‘kata dua’ to PKR. In this sense, DAP also has NO DIGNITY.

Apakah DS Najib Mengulangi Jejak Langkah Onn Jaafar?

June 13, 2014

Aku amat bimbang.

New MCA Leaders Have To Return to the Ways of MCA Founders

December 22, 2013

Congratulation to DS Liow Tiong Lai, and Dato’ Wee Ka Siong, who have been elected President and Deputy President of MCA. The same greetings also for those elected Vice Presidents and CEC members.

They are facing HUGE TASKS, almost UPHILL TASKS, to get back the support of the majority of the Chinese community, who have been overwhelmingly with DAP, since the 2008 GE. DAP was set up with objectives, among others, of DEMOLISHING certain fundamental corner-stones of our Federal Constitution, namely the provision of SPECIAL POSITION OF MALAYS/BUMIPUTRAS.

Whilst, MCA was one of the major players in the formulation of the SOCIAL CONTRACT among the major races, agreed upon a few years before the independence of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu. Under the SOCIAL CONTRACT, the Malay rulers and UMNO(the umbrella party of Malays), agreed to the persuasion of the British, to allow about 1.2 million CHINESE IMMIGRANTS, and 0.3 million INDIAN IMMIGRANTS, to be granted citizenship of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, and in return, those who were granted citizenship would recognize the SPECIAL POSITION of the Malays/bumiputras, who were original rulers and inhabitants of the Malay states.

Obviously, MCA and DAP were founded on DIFFERENT SETS OF OBJECTIVES. However, DAP appeared to have been able to gain the upper hands in IGNITING the feelings of the Chinese community, by their ‘Malaysian Malaysia’ objectives, ie. to do away with the provisions in our Federal Constitution, which provide for the SPECIAL POSITION of the Malays/Bumiputras, and all policies associated with it.

MCA should never try to be MORE DAP than DAP. MCA has to go back to the history of the party, as well as the history of the country’s independence. Founders of the Alliance Party(consisting of UMNO, MCA and MIC) were very far-sighted in formulating the Constitution of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu. Political stability of this country has been a key factor in the SUCCESS STORY of the country, including OUTSTANDING SUCCESS of its Chinese business community. Malaysia is now TOP 20 BIGGEST TRADING NATION in the world, and the country is on the verge of becoming a DEVELOPED COUNTRY.

Newly elected MCA leaders have a great task, to bring back MCA to the ways and thoughts of the MCA founders, most of whom were born in China, and immigrated to the Malay states during the ‘protectorate’ of the British in the Malay states. They were among those who were gifted with foresightedness, who formulated the SOCIAL CONTRACT, to ensure lasting PEACE, STABILITY and PROSPERITY of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, the permanent abode of their children and descendants for thousands of years to come.

To win back the Chinese, MCA has to re-educate the Chinese community, the WIN-WIN formula agreed upon by the co-founders of the country. MCA has to work hard to convince the Chinese community that the BN formula is THE WIN-WIN formula, and this the only way forward…..and that the DAP ‘Malaysian Malaysia’ will only lead to DESTRUCTION of what the country has built over the years.
